LEMON, Gerald O.

LEMON, Gerald O., 72, passed away July 9, 2010. Friends and family of Gerald "Jerry GoGo" Lemon are celebrating his amazing life and legacy as he leaves this world and heads into the next. Jerry was a native Tucsonan. His 1937 birth generated local news headlines. He and his brother, Harold were the first identical twins born in Tucson at St. Mary's Hospital via cesarean section. Jerry graduated Tucson High School in 1955, and was honored by the National Rifle Association for his skills as a marksman while still a high school student. All his life he loved the outdoors-hunting and fishing, but his greatest love was for the game of golf. It would be hard to find a course anywhere in town where he didn't play. Soon after high school Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his nation with distinction. He was also one of the youngest people ever to start work for the Southern Pacific Railroad at the tender age of 18, following in the footsteps of his father. After his military service, Jerry worked for and eventually retired from the SP. Many of his fellow trainmen are his closest friends. Combining his love of golf and the railroad, Jerry helped organize Southern Pacific golf tournaments at the Rio Rico and Tucson National resorts. Jerry was a proud graduate of the Tucson Police Citizen's Academy in 2001. In later years, he worked closely with the Academy and the young people who joined to support local law enforcement. In many ways Jerry was always a big "kid" at heart. When CB radios were the craze in the 70's he had the tallest antenna in his backyard, serving in the local citizens group that monitored emergency calls on the airwaves. He loved technology and was always fascinated by the latest developments in computers. Jerry is preceded in death by his father, O.F. "Jack" Lemon; his mother, Lillian Lemon and his brother, Harold Lemon. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Flett-Lemon; his son, Jim Lemon and countless extended family and friends in places ranging from Tucson to Yuma to Missouri to Australia. Jerry's family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the American Cancer Society or any favorite charity. Published in the Tucson Newspapers on July 13, 2010
