Dr. Eldon S. Roth, 80, died Monday, June 28, 2010, in Flagstaff. He had been in declining health in recent years.
Dr. Roth was born in St. Paul, Minn., went through most of grammar school in Bishop, Calif., and graduated from Bishop High School. He received a bachelor of arts degree in geology from UCLA and spent four years in the U.S. Army as an officer at NATO command in Heidelberg, Germany.
Upon returning to the States, he completed a master's degree in engineering geology and taught several years at Barstow Junior College. While there, he earned a Ph.D. in educational geology from USC. Dr. Roth was a long time resident of Flagstaff and a professor at Northern Arizona University for many years. Upon receiving his Ph.D., he received an appointment as assistant professor at NAU from which he retired.
Dr. Roth is survived by his brother, Lester H. Roth of Los Angeles; and a nephew, Lester E. Roth of San Diego.
