Vincente H. Martinez, 76, died peacefully at his home Saturday, July 10, 2010, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children at the time of his death.
Mr. Martinez was born on July 19, 1933, in Flagstaff, to Miguel and Josefa Martinez. He was very proud of his service in the U.S. Army, as well as his lifelong commitment to his wife Mary, whom he wed in July 1959. He will forever be remembered as a family man, a home gardener, a barbecue chef, an active member in the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Church and everyone's good friend. His family would like to thank the Kingman Regional Medical Center Hospice team for giving Mr. Martinez a quality of life and dignity in death.
Mr. Martinez is survived by wife Mary; children Debra Delgadillo (Ray), Vince Martinez (Candyce), Frances Fuerst, Caroline Marr (Joe), Bridget Anderson (Jason); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers Raymond and Rufino; and sister Rosita.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Tomas; and sisters Petra and Josefina.
An evening vigil and holy rosary will be held on Wednesday at 6 p.m. with funeral Mass Thursday at 10 a.m., both at St. Pius X Center, 2257 E. Cedar Ave. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 201 W. University Ave. Veterans' honors will be rendered by the members of Flagstaff veterans' organizations. In lieu of flowers, the family asks all to contribute to their community hospice programs.
