AMES, Azel (Bill)


Kingman Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ Wednesday, July 14, 2010 Azel 'Bill' Ames Azel S. Ames, better known to family and friends as Bill, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at the Kingman Regional Medical Center at the age of 81 years, just one month short of his 82nd birthday. Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Anita, Iowa, Bill came to Kingman in 1999. For most of his working life, Bill worked in the publishing industry, including positions of art director, typesetter, magazine editor, publisher and freelance writer. He was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator since 1953 (call sign K6SLN), and was an avid boat racer, competing in the Outboard World Championships at Lake Havasu in 1967 and 1969. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert F. Ames, and is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marylyn; his children, Pamela Michelson and Lawrence Ames; his grandchildren, Michele Walker, Christopher Michelson, Aaron Ames, Lauren Ames and Hillary Ames; and great-grandchildren, Katelyn Walker and Natalie Walker. No memorial services will be held.
