Dorothy Lucile Sypult, age 89 of Globe, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2010. She was born in Bloomington, Illinois on April 20, 1921 to Anna (Froehlich) and George Freed. She had lived in the Globe-Miami area for over 57 years.
Dorothy grew up in Gridley, Illinois, a small farming town in central Illinois, and attended nursing school at the Mennonite School of Nursing in Bloomington, Illinois. She was a career registered nurse and she worked in a variety of hospitals across the country, following her marriage to Frank Sypult in 1944, who was serving in the Army Air Corps in World War II.
After moving to Arizona in 1950, the Sypults lived in Phoenix and Casa Grande, where Dorothy was the head nurse for the HoHoKam Hospital. The Sypults moved to Globe in 1953, and Dorothy worked at the old M & I Hospital, the new hospital, and was School Nurse for the Globe Unified School District. She truly enjoyed helping and taking care of others.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Globe, and over the years had enjoyed being a Cub Scout Den Mother, working with the Hospital Auxiliary at the Gila General Hospital and playing bridge with her friends. She also enjoyed visiting with her many friends in the community.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Frank Sypult, in 2002.
Dorothy is survived by two sisters, Averil Stevig of Morro Bay, California and Georgia McKinley of Gridley, Illinois; brother, Allan Freed of Phoenix, Arizona; sons, Robert Sypult of Chandler Arizona and Dr. William Sypult of Globe, Arizona; and a large number of nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church in Globe, Arizona on August 7 at 10 a.m. The family suggests donations to the First Christian Church, P.O. Box 1241, Globe, AZ 85502, in lieu of flowers. Assisting the family is Lamont Mortuary.
