Richard L. Schaffer, 75, of Lakeside died Dec. 11, 2006, at Navapache Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Schaffer, an electronics officer for the United States Navy, was born May 14,1931 in Huron, S.D where he grew up and attended school. Following school he enlisted in the Navy and served during both Vietnam and Korea. He met and later married Marian L. Hider in 1954. He stayed in the Navy for 20 years and retired in January 1968. Following his military career he taught at DeVry as an electronics instructor.
He also worked as an insurance agent until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Schaffer came to the mountains following retirement, living in Forest Lakes, before moving to Lakeside. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and electronics.
Mr. Schaffer is survived by his wife, Marian Schaffer of Lakeside; two daughters, JaeDee Wolff of Louisville Ky. and Joanne Eggen of Scottsdale; a son, Warren Schaffer of Los Angeles Calif.; one sister, Dolores Anderson Huron, S.D.; and three grandchildren.
