Sister Mary Sheila (Agnes) Burns, C.S.A., 76, who served in Wickenburg for a short time and was a frequent visitor to the community, died August 25 in Phoenix.
Sister Mary Sheila was born June 3, 1915 in Beloit, Wisconsin. She professed her vows on August 15, 1937.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marian College and her Master of Arts and Doctor Philosophy degrees from Catholic University of America.
Sister Mary Sheila taught elementary school in Hays, Kansas from1937 to 1950, and high school in Yonkers, New York from 1950 to 1954.
After finishing her studies for her doctoral degree in 1957, she served as an instructor at Marian College. She was later appointed president of Marian and served in that capacity from 1963 to 1971.
Sister Mary Sheila did social work in Honolulu from 1981 to 1990 and pastoral ministry at St. Anthony’s Parish in Wickenburg until July.
Survivors include two sisters, Margaret Howe of Beloit, and Betty Wolenberg of Richmond, Virginia; a brother, Morris, of Beloit; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews.
