Emmett G. Coleman, 86, a Wickenburg resident since 1961, died April 16 at the Wickenburg Nursing home. He was born Jan.5, 1899 near the present site of the Alvarado Mine at the base of Yarnell Hill.
Coleman went to school at the old Congress Mine. In 1918, he married Pearl Shull, who was a grade school teacher in Wickenburg. Together, they owned a general store in Hillside. Later, they moved to Bagdad where they operated the Bagdad market until 1948 when his wife died.
After her death, Coleman traveled to Ireland and continental Europe. He also worked several years for the Arizona State Highway Department, finally entering the real estate business. He retired in 1961 and moved to Wickenburg.
Survivors include a brother, George Neil, of Sacramento, Calif.
Visitation was April 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Thomas E. Boyle officiating. Interment was in the Wickenburg Cemetery.
Arrangements were made through the Wickenburg Funeral Home.
