Tony Joseph Marich passed away on July 23, 2010 at the age of 93 in Globe. He was born May 6, 1917 of immigrant parents from Yugoslavia.
Tony served his country in the Navy during World War II spending most of his time in the South Pacific. He was very proud that he was able to defend his country. After returning he and a friend, Carl Coppa, ran a produce company in the Globe-Miami area. He was employed most of his life both preceding the war and after in the mining industry where he retired from Inspiration Copper Company. He also worked underground at Magma Copper in Superior, Miami Copper in the Globe Miami area and Oatman at the Gold Road mine.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Simun "Sam" Marich and Jelena "Helen" "Nellie" Sisevich Marich; his wife, Dorothy; brothers, John, Blas, Matt, and George; and sister, Eva.
He is survived by his brother, Martin "Pug" Marich of Phoenix, Arizona; daughters, Toni (Larry) Wantland of Globe and JoAnne MacIntyre of Blanco, Texas; his grandchildren, Kenneth Wantland of Mesa, Lori (Mike Mortensen) Wantland of Phoenix, and Joseph Wantland of Tucson. Also surviving are his great grandchildren Nicholas Wantland now serving in the U.S. Navy and Monique Wantland of Mesa, Arizona. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Lamont Mortuary in Globe, Arizona on Thursday, July 29, 2010 with visitation at 9:30 a.m. and services at 10 a.m.
Interment with military honors will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 7900 East Main Street in Mesa, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Cobre Valley Hospital, Attention Jane Allen, 5880 S. Hospital Dr., Globe, AZ, 85501.
