Frederique Antoinette Kortenhoeven Andre' died late Saturday night, July 17, 2010, at Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low following a lengthy illness. She was 78 years old.
Frederique was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Solo, Soerakarta, in the Dutch East Indies, which is now known as Indonesia, to the late Rene Adolphe and Cornelia Adriana (Steenhoek) Andre.'In 1946, Frederique was repatriated to The Netherlands and immigrated to the United States in 1956.
On Nov. 10, 1956, she married the love of her life, Jan Kortenhoeven at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson. She proudly became a United States citizen in 1960. She completed her education in home economics at Arizona State University in Tempe and worked in the Valley at several different hospitals and nursing homes over the years as a kitchen supervisor and dietician. She and her husband of 53 years, moved to Lakeside in 1987. She enjoyed the cooler temperatures and the beauty of the White Mountains.
She was a skilled artisan and enjoyed working with her hands. Over the years she weaved countless rugs, pillowcases and tapestries that are now treasured by her sweet family and friends. Frederique also enjoyed tole painting and gardening at her home. She always had beautiful flowers when they were in bloom.
This sweet and loving woman will truly be missed by many but, none will miss her more than those she loved the most, including her husband Jan Kortenhoeven of Lakeside; two sons Nicolaas Rene' (Jenny Morris) Kortenhoeven of Seaford, Va., Eric Jan (Debra) Kortenhoeven of Williamsburg, Va.; daughter Luise Lotte Kortenhoeven (Kevin English) of Lakeside; brother Jan Kors (Mies) Andre'; five grandchildren Eric William Kortenhoeven, Alex Nicole Kortenhoeven, Nicolaas Jan Kortenhoeven, Samantha Louise (Jared) Deaton and Leon Carpenter.
Private family services will be held at a later date. However, contributions to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Show Low Post #9907, 381 N. Central Avenue, Show Low, AZ 85901 or to the Humane Society of The White Mountains, 3212 N. Porter Mountain Road, Lakeside, AZ 85929 have been suggested by her family.
