HINES, Roy LeJune

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 01/05/2007 Roy LeJune Hines, 80, of Lakeside died Dec. 21, 2006 in Bozeman, Montana. He was born May 18, 1926 in Science Hill, Kentucky; the son of Vesta and Mattie (Morris) Hines. His parents moved to Glendale, when Roy was 2 years old, and he grew up there. Roy proudly served as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 for United States Air Force, during WWII. Roy met the love of his life, Shirley, while stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota; they were married June 13, 1945 in Deadwood. Roy and Shirley made their home in Glendale, following the war. He became a real estate salesman and then a broker, in partnership with Byron Peck. Roy's passion was being in the outdoors. He loved exploring country roads to see where they led. He was an expert hunter and loved being in the mountains. His last deer was a large non-typical buck from the Arizona Strip. It had four points on one side and seven on the other. When not selling real estate, or in the hills, he was often found repairing a friend or family member's car. Roy was always there for his wife and children. He didn't know what the word quit or can't meant. He never gave up on anything. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of 61 years; son, Roy Jr. (Gayle); daughters, Martha Maynard (John), Mary Quigley (Mark), and Rebecca Lieurance (Doug). He is also survived by his brother, Clifford Hines; and sister, Lillie Leadford. He was preceeded in death by his brother, Harvey Lewis.
