IN MEMORIAM
A memorial service for Gordon Richter Anderson, 75, of Country Club Park, Wickenburg will be conducted by Masonic Lodge Hassayampa No. 37 Tuesday, October 14th at 7:00 P.M. - Wickenburg Funeral Home Chapel. Gordon succumbed to leukemia on August 4th in Community Hospital.
Gordon was born November 3, 1910 in Burlington, Iowa to Hortense Richter and David G. Anderson. The family moved to Racine, Wisconsin where he attended school and graduated from Washington Park High School. He was a 1937 graduate of the University of Wisconsin (Madison) School of Engineering. While at Madison, he earned a “W” as a crew member of a racing shell and upon graduation, he worked for Johnson Controls in Toledo, Ohio. Returning to Wisconsin, he purchased Carlson Roofing and Insulation Co. in 1945, which he owned and operated until 1965.
Mr. Anderson was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Racine; the Racine Masonic Lodge No. 18; Orient Chapter No. 12 R.A.M.; a Knight Templar of Racine Commandary No. 7 and the Tripoli Shrine of Milwaukee. He was also an avid supporter of the Junior Achievement Group.
It was while attending a National Roofing Contractors Convention in Phoenix, Arizona that he “fell in love” with our state and joined the guest ranks of Flying E. ranch as a guest in 1963, becoming a full season guest for six years from October 1966 to May of 1972. It was here he became interested in flying, took flying lessons, bought his first plane and received his pilot's license, flying in and out of the Flying E. Airport. Gordon loved Wickenburg and became a Country Club Park resident in 1977. During the warm summer, he flew his Cessna 210 to Yukon Territory – Haines Junction area where he enjoyed fishing and camaraderie with world-wide friends who gathered at Dezadeash Lodge by the lake on the outskirts of Kluane National Park.
Surviving are one son, G. Taylor Anderson of Caledonia, WI; one daughter, Barbara West of Santa Fe, NM; one brother, Robert D. of Yakima, WA; four grandchildren and a host of friends who faithfully eased the final days of his unforgiving illness. His ashes will be scattered by plane over Black Mountain on the Flying E. Ranch, Gordo's final fight.
Note: No flowers please just share in heart the remembrance of a good friend.
