Leon J. Lenox passed away on July 31, 2010 in Globe, Arizona. Leon was born on Nov. 14, 1933 to Samuel C. and Ethel Sullivan Lenox in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Leon attended high school at Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio, Texas, where he graduated as Battalion Commander in 1951. When his father passed away in October of that year, Leon took over the operation of the ranch for his mother and sister, Shirley.
In 1957, Leon married Myrna Carter and had three children, Gail, Keith, and Gary. The family ranch was sold in 1968 and Leon was elected City Manager of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. The family moved to Globe, Arizona in 1972 where Leon was a member of the Gila County Sheriff’s Department as both a deputy and transport officer. He retired from BHP Copper Company and was a founding member of the Gila County Dive Team.
Leon was a driving force behind the Canyon Water Improvement District providing city water to residents of Ice House and Kellner Canyons. Leon enjoyed all water sports, including water skiing and scuba diving as well as travelling with his family. He had a lifelong affection for horses and dogs.
Leon is survived by Myrna, his wife of 52 years; children, Gail, Keith (Fay), and Gary (Elisya); and grandchildren Ryan and Kayla Wolf.
Services will be held in Globe, Arizona with interment in Dusty, New Mexico. Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 6, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Lamont Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010 in Dusty, New Mexico. The family requests contributions to Globe-Miami Memorial Foundation or Bullion Plaza Museum at P.O. Box 786, Miami, AZ 85539.
