Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, AZ Wednesday, Aug 4th, 2010 Richard T. Hughes, Jr, 59, of New Castle, Indiana, and formerly of Safford, passed away July 10, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana from complications of long-term diabetes. He was born in Miami, Arizona on July 21, 1950, the son of the late Pearl (Ison) and Richard T. Hughes, Sr. Richard graduated from Globe High School in 1969 and later completed two years of college at Eastern Arizona College. He was a copper miner until he retired in 2003 after 19 years with Phelps Dodge (Freeport-McMoRan). He enjoyed photography and spending time with family. He is survived by his wife, Pamela (Howard) Hughes of New Castle, Indiana; daughters, Onalee (Eric) Counceller, Karla Hughes of New Castle, Indiana, Marja (Marco) Panetta of Montreal, Canada, Hailey (Aaron) Peck of Tucson, Arizona, and Kathy Worrell of Phoenix, Arizona; a son, Vernon (Roxanne) Hughes of Farmington, New Mexico; ten grandchildren, Skylar (9), Shelby (6), and Levi (2) Counceller, Anthony DeCiancio (7), Toby Worrell (4), Madison (7), Simon (5), and Sebastian (4 mos) Peck, Lilly (3), and Vin (6 months) Panetta. He is also survived by two sisters, Elaine Hughes of Globe, Arizona and Linda (Lane Reed) Hoover of Prescott Valley, Arizona, and several nephews, nieces, and their children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Jerry Hughes; two sisters, Phyllis Powell and Marilyn Knowlton; and two grandchildren, Bryant and Dalton Worrell. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010 at the Real Life Community Church in Safford.
