Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Saturday, August 7, 2010 Wiley D. Monroe, 69, of Flagstaff, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, after losing his courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Mr. Monroe was born May 18, 1941, in Strong City, Kan., to Bill Monroe and Laverne Ferrell. He later served as a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He moved to Arizona in 1984 and continued to make that his home with his family until his death. He spent many years working as a marketing manager for IBM and several other companies to successfully provide the best for his family. After retirement, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and The Assistance League of Flagstaff. He met many good friends through his memberships is the Flagstaff Route 66 Car Club, The Wrinkleneck Fishing Club and Northern Arizona Flycasters. Mr. Monroe never knew a stranger and was kind to all people he met. He was known for his infectious sense of humor. His passion for travel took him to many places all over the world, enriching the lives of his wife and children. His crystal blue eyes reflected the many rivers and lakes in which he so loved to fish. He will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend, Pat ,and their two precious daughters, Heather Zeigler (Guy) and Lindsey Monroe-Siffermann (Jay). Papa will leave an indelible mark in the hearts of his four grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
