WHITING, Rex Dee


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 01/23/2007 Rex Dee Whiting, 80, beloved husband, father, grandpa and 'grandpa great' returned to his heavenly home Jan. 18, 2007. Rex was born in St. Johns Aug. 27, 1926. He was the sixth child born to Lola Gladys Waite and Lynn Sullivan Whiting. After completing an LDS mission to Eastern Canada he married Marjorie Bates of Taylor. They lived in Arizona, California and Utah, eventually returning to Arizona and settling in Taylor where he was employed at the Snowflake Paper Mill as a mechanic. He was involved with several civic clubs and the Paper worker's Union and served many years on the Arizona Employment Security Commission. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was an excellent teacher serving in many callings and served three missions. Each of his nine children served a full-time mission. He enjoyed genealogy, gardening, hunting, fishing, auto mechanics, good music and traveling with his family, anywhere anytime. He loved the family homestead and rolling tires off of Sierra Trigo. He enjoyed visiting with people and had a good sense of humor. He was a great storyteller. He loved his family and was very proud of them. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Marjorie; and his nine children, Linda of Eagar, Rex (Debbie) of Mesa; Harvey (Carlene) of Taylor, Eddie (Rose) of Sandy, Utah, Arthur (Paula) of Mesa, Kathy (Norman) Christensen of North Ogden, Utah, John (Jenna Kae) of Brigham City, Utah, David (Anne) of Salt Lake, Uta, Marianne (Tim) Mikesell of Syracuse, Utah. He leaves 37 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He also leaves two sisters, Ivy Wills of St. Johns, and Kay Martineau of Hooper, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; and a grandson, Andrew Whiting. Funeral Services will be held Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the Taylor Stake Center. Friends and family may call Thursday, Jan. 25, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Love Lake Chapel in Taylor. Silver Creek Chapel Mortuary handed arrangements.
