A Celebration of Life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Copper Basin Ward, 1001 Ruth St., with visitation one hour before in the Relief Society Room. Grave dedication to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1051 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, Ariz. Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home is assisting the family with final arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, August 11, 2010 Josephine Capitola Smith McCreary, 94, died Aug. 9, 2010, at the home of her granddaughter, Marissa McCreary, in Kannapolis, N.C. Josephine was born on July 4, 1916, in Donna, Texas, the daughter of Dan and Inez Smith. She had a happy childhood, the second of six children. She graduated from Donna High in 1934. She married Willis Howard McCreary on Sept. 26, 1939, during the Great Depression, at her parent's home in Donna. They had a beautiful, modest wedding. Willis and Josephine built a home in Alamo and raised their two children there - James Craig and Cheryl Jean. Josephine loved being a mother. Josephine began her teaching career in Alamo, Texas, in 1961. She taught at a migrant school for two years before returning to college to get her teaching degree. She attended Ricks College and Brigham Young University, receiving her bachelor of arts degree majoring in English and home economics in 1969. The family moved to Prescott, Ariz., in the fall of 1969. Josephine taught home economics at Prescott High School for 14 years and was loved by her students. Josephine enjoyed many hobbies. She was an excellent cook and seamstress enjoyed making floral arrangements, playing the piano and traveling. Josephine was active in the LDS church serving in various callings. She was a woman of strong faith and perseverance and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, James Craig; six grandchildren, Lori, Marissa and Jeremiah McCreary and Heather, Josh and James Russell; and seven great-grandchildren, Kara, Savannah, Ian, Zane, Morgan, Lauriana and Jonas; and her brother, Vevie Dee Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis; her daughter Cheryl; and four siblings, Granville, Dan, Eddie and Hootie. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at the LDS Chapel, 1001 Ruth St. in Prescott. A viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be at the Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home. Information provided by survivors.
