She was born August 15, 1917 in Texarkana, Texas, the daughter of T. J. and Lula May. She was a graduate of Texarkana High School. She was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed knitting and fishing. Mrs. Hammes was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Carmen Witt, Niobra Bell and Bernice Griggs. She leaves her two sons, Ken Hammes (Nancy) of Searcy, Arkansas and Tim Hammes (Belinda) of Camp Verde; and three grandchildren. Private services have been held.
