Barbara Jean Slaughter, 69, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, following a short illness. She was born Aug. 7, 1941, in Yuma. She attended Crane School, Fourth Avenue Junior High and Yuma High School.
She worked for the circulation departments at the Prescott Courier and the Arizona Daily Sun. She retired in 1997 from the Daily Sun, where she served as circulation customer service manager. Mrs. Slaughter returned to Yuma in 2005 upon her husband Ken's retirement from Shamrock Foods Company.
She was an avid lover of reading and music. She also had an immense love for her family and friends and her greatest joy came from being able to spend time with them.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ken Slaughter; sons Kenny (Shirl) of Surprise and Clay (Charlene) of Flagstaff; daughter Debbie of Yuma. Survivors also include her brother, Jeff Edington (Clara) of Yuma; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Mable McPherson of Yuma; stepfather Mack McPherson of Yuma; and father William Edington of Yuma.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson's Mortuary, 1415 S. First Ave., in Yuma. A service will be Saturday at 10 a.m., also at Johnson's Mortuary, Yuma, with cremation to follow.
