Alfred Joseph Woods, 82, passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, in Lake Havasu City. Al, as he was known to his family and friends, was born Oct. 18, 1925 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Alfred and Gene (Ward) Woods.
Following High School, Al enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country for almost three years, being honorably discharged as a signalman. Upon returning from military service, Al went into the family business, George Woods Shoring Company in Brooklyn, eventually becoming president of the business and retiring after 30 years.
Al, his wife and family moved to Lake Havasu City 30 years ago from New York. They moved back to New York for a brief period. In 2005 they made Lake Havasu City their permanent home.
Al was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. He enjoyed golfing, boating and traveled frequently in his younger years.
Al is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lila, of Lake Havasu City; sons, Alfred Woods, of Rochester, N.Y., Joseph Woods, of Stamford, N.Y., James Woods, of Hicksville, N.Y.; and daughter, Patricia Woods, of Phoenix, as well as nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today from 6-8 p.m., at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m., during the visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church. Father Mike Ashibuogwu will be officiating.
