Elbert Lee "Pee Wee" Redd, 77, of Winslow, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Redd was born Sept. 10, 1932, to Bertha Bernice Harden and Robert Lee Redd in Brookeland Texas. He was baptized at the age of 15 into Christianity and became a member of Church of the Living God. He formed the quartet group in the church.
He came to Winslow in 1962 and met and married his wife, Annie, in 1977. He worked at the Entre' restaurant for many years. He also worked as a security guard and with maintenance for the Winslow School District. He owned a pig farm. He loved taking care of his pigs, hunting, fishing and riding horses. He competed in many rodeo events in Texas -- that is how he got his nickname, "Cowboy."
Mr. Redd is survived by his wife, Annie; son Le'Raymond Hollins; sisters Rosa Young (Wyte) of Winslow, Shirley Robinson (Willie), Shirley McCray, Annie Vaughn, and Jesse Vaughn of Phoenix, Madie Joe White, Eunice Rodes (Anthony), and Betty Mitchell of California; brothers John D. Vaughn and Hershey Vaughn Jr. of Louisiana, Bernest E. Vaughn of Tucson, and Bobby Mitchell, Wilmer Mitchell, Maurice Mitchell and Fulton Mitchell of California; four grandchildren; a special cousin; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives who are to live on in his absence.
His mother, father, a sister, a brother, a niece and two nephews preceded him in death.
Services for Mr. Redd will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Norvel Owens Mortuary in Winslow. Visitation is Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Rev. Wendell Carter will have a memorial service in the Norvel Owens Mortuary Friday. Interment will follow in the Desert View Cemetery.
The family suggest that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.
