BABINA, Chester J. (Chet)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, AZ ~ August 18, 2010 Chester J. "Chet" Babina died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010 in Springerville. He was born Dec. 5, 1919 in Hartford, Conn, the son of Raymond Babina and Alice Ptaszynski Babina. He came to Arizona in 1961, was active in the Phoenix Comancheros, and worked at Motorola in Scottsdale until he retired and moved to his wife Cleo's home town of Springerville where he lived until his death. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was an active 4th degree Knight. Chet was an avid golfer winning several awards and trophies; among them two gold medals in the Senior Olympics. He was an active member of the Round Valley Senior Association and the senior center. Chet is survived by his wife Melva Babina, nine step-children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cleo Madariaga, and younger brother Raymond Babina Jr. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Springerville. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at the church. Interment will follow at the Springerville Cemetery. Burnham Mortuary of Eagar handled arrangements.
