The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, August 02, 2010 Dorothy Marie Bond Allen August 26, 1925 July 30, 2010 Dorothy was born on August 26, 1925 in Muscatine, Iowa. She studied at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois. Dorothy served as a missionary under SEND International (formerly Far Eastern Gospel Crusade) in Japan and Okinawa from 1954 to 1989. She married a fellow missionary, Shelton Allen, in 1965 after the death of his first wife. Dorothy wholeheartedly embraced the care of his four small children, ages one to seven. A fifth child was born into the family in 1967. The Allens retired to Ypsilanti, Michigan in 1989 and moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1998. Dorothy cared for Shelton through a long debilitating illness until his death in 2001. Dorothy always had a heart for children and found joy in her AWANA, Special Ed. and Vacation Bible School ministries at Willow Hills Baptist Church. She became ill this past December and was recently diagnosed with cancer. She died peacefully at home on Friday, July 30, 2010 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her sisters Delta Bond and Alice Rahe; her brothers Kenneth Bond and Loren Predmore; her daughters Keren Beeck, Sharon Allen, and Ruth Carothers; her sons Nathan Allen and Luke Allen; and 13 grandchildren. The memorial service will be at Willow Hills Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 4 at 11a.m. At her request, her ashes will be buried beside her husband's in Utsunomiya, Japan.
