Jerry Wayne Clay, 68, of Linden went to be with his Heavenly Father and Dad Wednesday, Dec. 5, at his residence. He was born Jan. 11, 1939, in Phoenix, the son of Zeno "Sandy" and Helen (Schoenberger) Clay.
Jerry grew up in Phoenix and graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1957. He was married to the former JoAnn Charlton Jan. 19, 1961, in Phoenix. He remained in Phoenix until 1980, after which he lived in Show Low and Las Vegas. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at the Nevada test site and retired from the International Brotherhood of Operating Engineers Local Number 12.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He loved his family, who in turn adored him, and was a friend to all who knew him. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Show Low Lodge 2090.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; two daughters, Donna (Bob) Sanders of Chino Valley; Jerri Ann (Jim) Day of Las Vegas, Nev.; his mother, Helen Clay of Phoenix; sister Sandra and (Arwin) Moore of Walla Walla, Wash.; two grandsons, Rick and Rob Sanders of Chino Valley; two great-grandsons, Trent and Haydon Sanders of Chino Valley.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 7, at the Show Low Elks Lodge.
In lieu of flowers, donations to RTA Hospice, 1789 W. Commerce Dr., Lakeside, AZ, 85929 would be appreciated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Black's Mortuary in Show Low.
