GEORGE, William Richard (Concho Bill)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ December 31, 2007 William Richard George, 78, died peacefully Dec. 21, 2007, at his daughter's home in Show Low with his loving family near him. He was born in Embreeville, Pa., to Harrison and Margaret George Feb. 6, 1929. Country music fans of FM 92.1 in particular will remember the mysterious "Concho Bill" and his relentless generosity with jokes, friendly sarcasm and amazing trivia. He blessed everyone he knew with humor and kindness. Having moved to Concho in 1991 after living in Sedona for 19 years he spent the last 10 years of his life working to rescue animals. He proudly served our country in the Korean War 1950-52?and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star, United Nations Medal and Combat Infantry Badge for his wartime service as a tank mechanic. He moved to Arizona in 1955, continuing the trade of mechanic until his retirement. He was an amazing and ingenious mechanic, having once fixed his daughter's car with a ballpoint pen. He was deeply loved and will be missed. He is survived by his younger brother, Howard L. George of Folcroft, Pa.; younger sister Margaret Pierce of Delaware; son Richard George of Fort Mohave; and daughter Victoria Blessing of Show Low; three grandchildren, Amanda Mullins of Bullhead City and Nathan Mullins and Zachary Blessing, both of Show Low; five great-grandchildren, Seth Mullins of Fallbrook, Calif., Lunna Mullins of Show Low and Asaun Anderson, Katherin Avila and Bethany Avila, all of Bullhead City. The family asks that any donations be given in his name to RTA Hospice of Show Low. Arrangements were handled by Silver Creek Mortuary in Taylor.
