Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Published Tuesday, August 24, 2010 July 19, 1936 – Aug. 15, 2010 Barbara Lou Nerden, 74, Lake Havasu City, passed away Aug. 15 at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev. A resident of Lake Havasu City for the past nine years and former resident of Rock Springs, Wyo., Mrs. Nerden had been in ill health for the past several years. She was born on July 19, 1936, in Hollywood, Calif., the daughter of the late Edwin Hatcher Smith and Mary McGuire Smith. Mrs. Nerden attended schools in California. She married Gerald Brown in Santa Barbara, Calif., Sept. 19, 1953, and they later divorced. She later married James A. Nerden Jr. March 13, 1964, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1994. Her interests included knitting, crocheting, bowling, cooking, bingo, gambling, and she volunteered at the hospital in Lake Havasu City and also at the Senior Citizens Center in Rock Springs, Wyo. Survivors include two sons, Scott A. Brown and wife, Patricia, and Rick E. Brown and wife, Lora, all of Rock Springs, Wyo.; one daughter, Cynthia L. (Cyndi) Sullivan and husband, Daniel (Dan), of Rock Springs, Wyo.; two sisters, Linda Madrid and husband, Paul, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Susan Peach, of Running Springs, Calif.; six grandchildren, Bryon Brown and wife Susan of Rock Springs, Wyo., Jacoy Harjala and husband, Michael, of Aztec, N.M., Jacob Berry, of Rock Springs Wyo., Michael Brown and wife, Randi, of Watford City, N.D., Janaee Stone and husband, Travis, of Ogden, Utah, Brynn Brown, of Draper, Utah; seven great-grandchildren, Kane Tolman, Lari Brown, Zoe Brown, Rylee Berry, Brooklin Berry, Alexia Stone, Adisyn Stone; six nieces; two nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Nerden and wife, Dorothy, of Grenada Hills, Calif., and Richard Dionne and Joyce, of Pioneer, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents and second husband. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Vase Funeral Chapel; 154 Elk St., Rock Springs, Wyo. Interment will be in the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park Section of the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery. Friends were asked to call on Tuesday at the Vase Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs, Wyo., one hour prior to services. The family of Barbara Lou Nerden respectfully suggests that donations in her memory be made to Young at Heart Senior Citizens Center, 2400 Reagan, Rock Springs, Wyo.
