Harold Clifford “Clem” Hulbert, Jr. passed away on Aug. 13, 2010 at the Hospice house in Payson Arizona. He was born April 29, 1931, the son of Harold C. Hulbert, Sr. and Addie Lea Hulbert. He was raised in Tonto Basin, but as a young adult moved to Tempe, Arizona.
Clem married Marilyn Kay Toot on June 27, 1956. They lived in Tonto Basin where they raised their four children, Allan, Tim, Lane, and Roxane. Clem was employed for 35 years with ADOT where he retired.
As a young man, he was a cowboy at several ranches and also worked on dairies in Tempe. As Payson started to grow, Clem built many roads in Payson, Oxbow Estates, Star Valley, and Tonto Basin for Preston Dooley. Clem and his family lived at Bray Creek Ranch under the rim, where they spent many happy years and later moved to Payson.
Clem is survived by his lovely wife of 54 years, Marilyn; his children, Tim (Carol) Hulbert, Lane (Leann) Hulbert, and Roxane (Wayne) McMillen; and nine grandchildren, Michael, GT, Nickie, Shawna, Justin Ty, Christina, Amber, Cole, Beau; eight great grandchildren, and his cat Sugar.
A celebration of life will be held on Sept. 12, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Tonto Basin School in Tonto Basin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Payson Hospice, 511 S. Mudsprings Road, Payson, Arizona 85541.
