Wednesday, Aug 25th, 2010
Carmen Esparza Cañez was born in Morenci, Arizona on Dec. 18, 1918, to Marcos and Juanita Esparza. She passed away on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at home, surrounded by her family.
Carmen married Leo Cañez in 1939. In 1943, they moved to Miami. Together they raised seven children.
Carmen unselfishly devoted her life to her family. She had great pride in her home and was very talented in several areas. Carmen was an excellent seamstress, gifted with the ability to create her own designs and patterns. She made most of the clothes her daughters wore. She was also a creative cook/baker with an uncanny knack for stretching meals to feed her family of nine. A product of the Depression Era, Carmen was always mindful of the value of a dollar and did all she could to ensure that her family would never be without.
Carmen will be missed so much. Her family is very thankful to her for all her sacrifice and selflessness. She will be in their hearts always. “We could not have asked for a better mother.”
Carmen leaves behind in loving memory her seven children, Robert (Dorene), Ernestine (Johnny), Fay (Enrique), Ben, Esther, Rosie (Danny) and Michael (Belinda); 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010. Visitation will be at 9 a.m.; Rosary at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Miami, Arizona.
Funeral arrangements for Carmen E. Cañez were entrusted to Miles Funeral Services Miami.
