Jim Goitia
(November 19, 1925 - August 24, 2010)
On Tuesday, August 24, Jim Goitia, surrounded by family, was received into the arms of God. Jim was born in Flagstaff, AZ on November 19, 1925 to Manuela and Santiago Goitia. One of eight children, Jim attended South Beaver Elementary School and graduated from Flagstaff High School. He served in the United States Army during WWII during which he was stationed in France. When the war ended he returned to Flagstaff and attended trade school in Phoenix where he trained to be a mechanic.
For 40 years he was employed at Jim Babbitt Ford. In his spare time he loved to fish, hunt and spend time outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved loving in Flagstaff and often referred to it as the ‘greatest place on earth’ During his retirement he traveled often throughout the state, most frequently to Laughlin and Phoenix. He was a good old cowboy, most comfortable in his boots and hat, which he never left home without. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his love of children and his easy going demeanor.
He is survived by his children Patricia Cornett, Bobby Goitia (Debbie), Teresa Torres (Leandro), Carmen Goitia, Delphine Javorsky (Jeff), Clifford Goitia, and Lorraine Goitia, twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and brothers and sisters Mary Eastman (Bob), Charlie Goitia (Ruth), Danny Goitia (Lynn), Eddie Goitia (Margaret), Isabella Navarro (Tachie) and Ralph Goitia (Alice).
He was preceded in death by his wife Olga Goitia and daughter Gloria.
Services will be held Monday, August 30, At St. Puis X Catholic Church.
The viewing is at 9:00 am; Rosary at 9:30 am; and Mass at 10:30 am. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
