Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Published Wednesday, July 2, 2008 Betsy Ross (Barker) Pugh, 81, died June 30, 2008, at her home in Lake Havasu City, attended by family. She was born March 23, 1927, in Danville, Va., the daughter of Zona Prescott and Douglas Barker, Sr. Betsy was married for 36 years to Charles "Chuck" Darwin Pugh, Sr. Following Chuck's retirement as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, they enjoyed life together as best friends, sharing traveling, fishing, camping and organic gardening. She moved to Lake Havasu City in 2005 from Spring Valley, Calif. Betsy always had a smile and a kind word for everyone she met, and usually drew a smile or outright laughter from them as well. She will be missed. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004; her brother, Douglas Barker, Jr., and sisters, Mary Wilson, Peggy Powell and Corine Horsley. She is survived by her niece, Rebecca Ann Buchanan, of Lake Havasu City; nephew James M. (Linda) Powell, of Newbury, N.H.; a stepson, Charles D. (Rosie) Pugh, Jr., of Kahului, Hawaii and his siblings; and other nieces, nephews, cousins, great nephews and great nieces. The family will be having a private memorial service.
