Frances Mary Dawson passed away at her residence on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at the age of 89. She was born to Francis and Winifred (Kendrick) Elliott on Aug. 14, 1921, in Casper, Wyo.
In her younger years, Frances was a seamstress and, prior to World War II, had her own dress shop; to support the war effort, she worked as a riveter in an airplane factory in Southern California.
Frances and her husband, Jim “J.D.”, moved to Lake Havasu City from Brea, Calif., in March of 1979 and were married for 57 years until his passing in April 2001. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She served as a regent for the Catholic Daughters, was active in the past with CCD and other church functions.
Frances loved to dance, enjoyed painting and still enjoyed stock car racing.
Frances is survived by her children, James Dawson and his wife Kay, Sheryl Collins, Michael Dawson and his wife Vickie, all of Lake Havasu City; sisters, Dorothy Lawson of Chowchilla, Calif., and Winnie Forsley of Boise, Idaho; brother, James Elliott and his wife Carol of Lake Havasu City; sister-in-law, Bobbi Elliott of Whittier, Calif.; grandchildren, Kathy Cane, Lisa Long, Tina Dawson, Michael Collins, Michelle Lamb and her husband Chris, Tony Dawson and his wife Jerri Sue, Jackie Smearman and her husband Matthew; great grandchildren, Johnathan Cane, Michael Cane, James Dawson, Nathan Dawson, Madison Dawson, Makayla Dawson, Nicolas Smearman and Cameron Dawson.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim “J.D.” Dawson, and her brother, Bernard “Babe” Elliott.
A Rosary will be said for Frances at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church with a memorial Mass led by Father Chauncey Winkler following at 11 a.m. A reception will follow Mass at the Holy Family Parish Center.
In lieu of flowers, the Dawson family has requested that donation be made in Frances’ name to New Hope Hospice, 500 N. Lake Havasu Ave. Suite B106, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403.
