Catherine E. Walenty, nee Sweeney, 89, passed away at her home Sunday June 8, 2008, with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. She was born Jan. 4, 1919, in Boston, Mass., where she lived for 31 years. She married and moved to Clinton Twp., Mich., where she resided for 32 years.
She worked as an accounting clerk for the US Tank Automotive Command in Warren, Mich., for 18 years. She retired in 1984 and moved to Lake Havasu City. While living in Lake Havasu City she volunteered her time to many organizations and served on several committees. She was proud to have served on a committee for the Interagency Council and the Mayor's special focus committee on persons with disabilities. She participated in the visually impaired group serving as an officer for several years. She had a passion to represent those with visual and hearing disabilities, who like herself, struggled in normal society.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Laura (Larry III) Schott, of Lake Havasu City; son, Allen (Carol) Walenty, of Harrison Twp., Mich.; and grandchildren, Sarah Schott, of Lake Havasu City, Larry Schott IV, of Clinton Twp., Alexander Walenty, Stephanie Walenty, and Scott Walenty all of Harrison Twp. She is also survived by sisters, Agnes Dervan, of Worcester, Mass., Pauline Bums, of Ayer, Mass., Alice (Bill) Dwyer, of Worcester, brother, Arthur Sweeney, of Nottingham, England; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John Sweeney, Edward Sweeney, and Frank Sweeney; sister, Mae Sweeney; and parents, John and Mary Sweeney.
