Oliver (Ole) Harmer
A treasured renaissance man has left the bonds of this world Oct. 10, 2007, while traveling with his wife, Jeanne, he experienced heart failure.
He was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Sioux Falls, S.D. to Carlyle and Agnes Harmer. He was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Pinetop. He was a resident of Show Low. During the Korean Conflict he served as a cryptographer in the Navy.
In Dec. 1991, Ole retired after 28 years with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, as the Regional Manager for the Pacific. He lived for seven years in Hawai in that position. Hawaii was a major love for him. Ole was active in community service having served in 1971 as the California state president of Sertoma. He was a longtime member of the Tempe Diplomats and the Kiwanis Club of Tempe Nuevo in Tempe.
He is survived by sons, Tony of Holland, Mich., Bradley (Jan) of Whittier, Calif.; daughters Cindy Harmer of Chanhassen, Minn. and Dayna Kimsey of Canoga Park, Calif.; stepson Kent Brant of Atlanta, Ga.; and stepdaughters Kay Rutledge (Larry) of Soledad, Calif., and Deborah Brady (Matt) of Spokane, Wash.; and 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He leaves a beloved sister-in-law, Alice Harmer and a family of cousins, niece and great-niece and great-nephew of Sioux Falls, S.D.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Community Presbyterian Church, 1940 S. Penrod in Pinetop and Oct. 20 at the Silveridge RV Park and Resort located at 8265 E. Southern in Mesa in the clubhouse at 10 a.m.
