BERNARD, Robert Ronaldo


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Published Monday, August 30, 2010 Robert Ronaldo Bernard passed away Aug. 26, 2010, in Lake Havasu City at the age of 85. He was born June 10, 1925, in Boston, Mass. Bob married his beloved bride, Pauline Therrien, Feb. 3, 1951, and together they made Lake Havasu City their home 20 years ago from Camarillo, Calif. During the Depression, Bob served in the Civilian Conservation Corps under the direction of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A 21-year veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, Bob retired from the U.S. Navy in 1963 as an aviation ordinance man Petty Officer First Class (A01). Following that, he worked 10 years for the Civil Service and then nine years as a custodian for the Hueneme School District. Bob was a member of the VFW Post 9401, Republicans Men’s Club, Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, and also belonged to the Fleet Reserve in Oxnard, Calif. He was an avid NASCAR fan; he lived for NASCAR. Up until two years ago, he attended the races five to six times a year. “God Bless America.” Bob leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Pauline Bernard, of Lake Havasu City; two sons, Michael Bernard (and his wife, Carol), of Arlington, Texas, and Bruce Bernard, of Lake Havasu City; three daughters, Suzanne Rucker, of Fayetteville, N.C., Frances Gill, of Lake Havasu City, and Jo Ann Bernard, of Bullhead City, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Sept. 9, 10 a.m. at Cave Creek National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix. The family encourages all donations be made to Hospice of Havasu, P.O.
