Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Published Monday, June 9, 2008 Wilmer L. Lindorff, 81, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2008, at his home in Lake Havasu City. He was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Blakely, Minn. to Albert and Marie (Tyreman) Lindorff. At the age of 10, Wilmer, known as Curley by his friends and family, was sent to the state school orphanage in Owatonna, Minn. along with his brothers and sisters. Curley served in the U.S. Army, WWII, as a paratrooper in Company B. During his last jump, his back was broken, eventually resulting in his Honorable Discharge, Nov. 10, 1946. Curley was a railroad man for 36 years, working for the Santa Fe Railroad in Chicago, Ill.; where he was known as Bill, Lindy, and Curley. He retired in 1985, spending five years as a snow bird at Crazy Horse Campgrounds in Lake Havasu City. There he made many friends, playing pinochle, and was often referred to as a swell guy among the card players. Curley and his wife then moved into town, where he enjoyed the remainder of his retirement. He will be greatly missed by both his family and many friends. Curley is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose (Steffan); daughters, Susan Schipper, of Lake Havasu City, Sandra Thimmig, of Denver, Colo.; son, Michael, of Carmel, Ind.; grandchildren, Alicia, Brianna and Cory Schipper, of Lake Havasu City, Lisa and Brian Thimmig, of Amarillo, Texas; and Borger, Texas; respectively. From a family of 14 children, Curley is survived by three siblings; Everett Lindorff ,of Seattle, Wash.; and sisters, Esther King, of Longview, Wash.; and Georgia Griffey, of Seattle, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
