Parley Ropp, Jr., 83, passed away May 15, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson. Parley was born in Logansport, Ind., and, following a stint in the Navy Air Force in WWII, returned home to marry Marion Davis, of Marion, Ind.
He went to work for the Nickel Plate Railroad as a yard clerk for ten years. He moved with his family to Torrance, Calif., where he was employed by the U.S. Post Office as a mail carrier. He later worked in quality control for the aircraft industry. In 1966, he moved with his family to Santa Maria, Calif., where he set up and ran the Mac Tool franchise. Later he returned to the aircraft industry, from which he eventually retired.
Following retirement, Parley and Marion moved to Lake Havasu City to be near his uncle. Fifteen years later they moved to Tucson to be near their daughter, Susan.
Parley was a member of Sandario Baptist Church of Tucson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marion; daughter Susan Marie Ropp, of Tucson; his son, Gary Allen Ropp, of Mt. Shasta, Calif.; his half-sister, Virginia Callan, of Gainesville, Fla.; his half-brother, David Ropp, of Logansport, Ind.. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph D. Ropp; half-brother, Paul Ropp; and half-sister, Bonnie Jo Ropp.
Military services will be May 30 at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista, followed by a memorial service at Sandario Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Bob McSpadden.
