Edmund Karol Brzezinski passed away in his sleep in the early hours of May 2, 2008. He was born Sept. 8, 1923, in Syracuse, N.Y.
Edmund had a fascination with flight from an early age. During WWII he served as a flight engineer and top turret gunner on B-24’s with the 90th Bomber Group, the Jolly Roger Squadron, in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross during their raid on the Japanese oil refinery at Balikapan. He was the only member of his crew to survive the war.
Edmund moved to Los Angles, Calif., after the war and worked at Santa Anita and Hollywood Park racetracks until he retired to Lake Havasu City over thirty years ago. He loved gardening, camping, coin collecting and golf.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Ron Brzezinski, of Ormond Beach, Fla., Marlene Brzezinski, of Chino Valley, Ariz., Jamey Brzezinski, of Merced, Calif., Barbara Morgan, of Yucaipa, Calif., Teri Brzezinski, of Cottonwood, Ariz.
We all loved Uncle Ed very much. He was a great guy - a war hero and an independent, well-read, intelligent human being.
A memorial service will be held on June 6, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 North Cave Creek Road in Phoenix.
