James Joseph
James Joseph Welsh, August 9, 1914 - December 27, 2003. Born in San Francisco, the son of James Joseph Welsh and Josephine Powers Welsh.
Graduate of St. Ignatius High School in 1932. Graduate of Stanford University in 1936. Attended Harvard Law School; and graduated Stanford Law School 1940. Served as Secretary to Governor Earl Warren 1943-1953. Appointed Presiding Commissioner of the State Industrial Accident Commission in 1953. Served as Legal Secretary to Governor Goodwin J. Knight, 1953 to 1955. Appointed Judge of the Municipal Court of the City and County of San Francisco in 1955. Retired to Indian Wells, CA in 1974; sat as pro-tem Judge, lndio, 1975 to 1990. Member Theta Chi. Member Indian Wells Golf Club. Past member of Lake Merced Golf Club, and of California Golf Club.
Survived by his wife of 64 years, Lovell Gunter Welsh. Preceded in death by his son James Lovell Welsh. Survived by is daughter Lovell Bonnie and her husband Patrick Bonnie of Livermore, daughter Laurie Flemer and her husband Robert Flemer of Sammamish, WA and son, Manning Welsh and his wife Shari Gilvich of Portland, OR; survived by six grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Salvation Army, the Boys and Girls Club of Coachella Valley, 42-600 Cook St., Ste. 120 Palm Desert, CA 92211.
