ROTHANS, Charles J. (Chuck)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ September 13, 2007 Charles J. "Chuck" Rothans of Taylor died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007. Chuck was born to David Joseph Rothans and Ann Catherine O'Hara Rothans in Sioux City, Iowa, and spent the first 10 years of his life in South Dakota. His family moved to Michigan when he was 10 years old, where he lived until adulthood. In 1959 he moved to Delaware and lived there for almost two years. In 1961 Chuck moved to Arizona. Chuck graduated from high school and later was trained in welding at Chrysler Guided Missile. In his work he was able to weld on the first guided missiles. He built the first five-car Haul-Away trailer. Chuck also managed the Forest Glen Trailer Park in Pinetop. He worked at the Snowflake Paper Mill from 1961-1966 and was a member of U.A. Local 469. He also taught welding in the union apprenticeship program. Chuck was raised as a Catholic and helped build "Our Lady of the Snows" Catholic Church in Snowflake. Chuck is survived by his wife, Lana Rothans; two daughters, Marlene Pierce of Phoenix and Denise (Brett) Bailey of Pilot Rock, Ore.; three stepdaughters, Laree (Randy) Hoaglin of Taylor, Leah (Manuel) Rosales of Taylor and Torie (Brent) Bonenberger of Gilbert; son David J. (Rita) Rothans of Gilbert and stepson Peter Jack Borota of Taylor. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clair (Monty) I. Rothans; two sisters, Esther (Jimmy) Gray of Globe and Monica (Bill) Payne of Ray, Mich. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, brother Monty Rothans, sister Esther (Jimmy) Grey and step-granddaughter Cody Druce-Baca. Arrangements were handled by Silver Creek Mortuary of Taylor.
