WOODS, Roy Grant


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ September 20, 2007 Roy Grant Woods died Sept. 15, 2007, in Lakeside. He was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Thatcher. Roy was principal of Ray District High School. He worked as personnel director of the original Marana High School. He planned for and was principal of the Marana High School on Emigh Road. In his lifetime, he served as president of the North Central Accreditation Association and president of Arizona Secondary School Principals. He originated the GED (General Education Development) program for adults with Central Arizona College and established the Master Schedule B Conference Athletics for Southern Arizona. He is survived by sons Andrew Wood of Brussels, Belgium, Grant Shupe Woods (Sharon) of Mesa; Roy Keith Woods (Malele) of Kingaroy, Australia; and daughter Claire Woods Westlake (Kevin) of Mesa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Shupe Woods. Services and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Thatcher LDS Stake Center, 1260 Reay Lane. A Roy Woods memorial has been established for a deserving student to be selected from Kearny High School through Desert Schools Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 2945, Phoenix, AZ 85062-2945.
