KNITTEL, Ruth N.

Ruth N. Knittel was born in Youngstown, Ohio on June 6, 1939 and died in Tucson on September 3, 2010. Ruth was a gentle scholar, an exceptionally talented pianist and organist, and a wonderful friend. Her academic life was marked by milestones: the first woman in the history of Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, (founded in 1852) to graduate with a 4.0 GPA and also graduating from her Masters of Social Work program at Ohio University with a 4.0. She taught English as a Second Language at the University of Arizona, in Peru, Brazil, Mexico and Russia. She was the pianist at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson. A world traveler, she has now embarked on another journey, leaving behind two brothers, Paul, in Japan and Carl, in Milpitas, California; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends who loved her dearly and will miss her sorely. A Memorial Service will be held for Ruth at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northwest Tucson, 3601 W. Cromwell Drive, on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by DESERT SUNSET - CATALINA.
