Kenneth Edward Roush, 76, of Show Low died Oct. 1, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Roush, an Episcopal priest, was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Springfield, Ohio. His family moved to Oakland, Calif., when he was a small child. He grew up and was educated in Oakland.
Following school he enlisted in the Coast Guard where he served as an electronic technician during the Korean War. Following an honorable discharge he attended San Francisco State University and then enrolled in the Episcopal seminary in Berkely, Calif.
After his ordination in 1960 he worked in the field of social psychology and community organization with Bishop Pike at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. He also marched with Martin Luther King in Selma, Ala., during the Civil Rights Movement. He served several years in Nevada as a parish priest and then enlisted in the Air Force where he served as a chaplain (captain) during the Vietnam War.
Fr. Roush was also chaplain to the astronauts during the Apollo Space Missions, 9-13. In 1971, he was honorably discharged from the Air Force, and worked as the director of the Neighborhood Youth Corp in San Bernardino, Calif. He later entered private practice as a licensed marriage, family and child counselor at Lake Tahoe, Nev., and following that, was a Veterans Affairs coordinator and professor of psychology at Chaffey College in California and Park College at Luke AFB in Phoenix. He was also employed as a conciliation counselor for the Maricopa County Superior Court Domestic Relations Division.
After relocating to Show Low he served as vicar of Our Saviour Episcopal Church in Lakeside. Following his retirement from the active ministry, he was employed by Navajo County Superior Court as a domestic relations mediator and by Northland Pioneer College as a professor of philosophy and ethics.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Judith K. Roush of Show Low; five sons, Kenneth E. Roush of Seal Beach, Calif., Christopher J. Roush of Virginia Beach, Va., Timothy L. Roush of Riverside, Calif., Daniel R. Roush of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Jonathan N. Roush of Sasebo, Japan; brother George Roush of Concord, Calif.; four grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Friday, Oct. 5, at the Show Low Cemetery.
