The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ September 10, 2007 Mary Isabel Stotera, 96, of Lakeside died Sept. 6 in Lakeside. Mary was born Jan. 22, 1911, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to the late Emory and Mary (Shilliam) Miller. She was educated in the Marshalltown public schools, Grinnell College and Columbia University. She taught high school English and history for 39 years in Iowa, Michigan, California and Arizona. She married Richard Stotera in 1949, retired from the Tucson Unified School District in 1973 and spent her remaining years in Mexico, the White Mountains and Winslow. Reading, walking, gardening, painting and writing were her favorite activities. Mary was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church and was active in the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Show Low and the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winslow. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Stotera; parents, Emory and Isabel (Shilliam) Miller; sister Jeanne Porter; and brother Phillip Miller. She is survived by her nieces, Sheila Porter, of Grove, Okla., Mary Jo Fisher, Anne Porter and Patricia Poehlman, all of Oklahoma City, and Marsha Durossette of Tulsa, Okla., as well as a very special friend, Sharon Romance of Lakeside. A requiem mass will be held at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior, 5147 Show Low Lake Road, Show Low, on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the columbarium of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior.
