William Frederick Thelen was born in Genefus, Germany, November 13, 1850; passed away at his home December 9, 1926, at 5 o'clock, at the age of 76 years and 26 days.
For the last three years he suffered from a cancer and was confined to his bed since the twentieth of August.
He came to America with his parents when he was three years old. When his country was in war with the South, he was too young to enlist, but as soon as he was 21 he enlisted and served five years.
On December 9, 1886, he was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Feldman, being married forty years to the day. To this union eleven children were born, two dying in infancy. Those living are: Mrs. Mary Cody, Edwardsville, Kansas; Jacob Thelen, home address; Mrs. Margaret Etchison, Santa Monica, California; Mrs. Ruth Warren, Beverly, Kansas; Mrs. Gusty Warden, Los Angeles, California; Adelyne Thelen, home address; Mrs. Rose Purdy, home address; Mrs. Lily Magill, Clarksdale, Arizona; and Matthew Thelen, of Clemenseau, Arizona.
He also leaves to mourn his going one sister, Mrs. Mary Houston of Syracuse, New York, and one brother, Phil Thelen of Kansas City, thirteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held at the home Sunday, December 12th, at 2pm, Rev J.Q. Turner the pastor in charge. The body was laid to rest in the Deerfield Cemetery.
