Helen I. Consolo (Hornak), 83, of Tempe, Arizona, left this life on January 1, 2004. Born August 23, 1920 in East Chicago, Indiana, Helen entered the armed services where she achieved the rank of Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. While stationed in Detroit, she met and married her husband of 60 years, Bruno. They settled in Chicago, where they raised their family. In 1990 they retired to Tempe. Helen is the loving wife of Bruno, cherished mother of MaryAnn (Myron Reisler), Jo Ann (Jay Licht-man), Joseph (Emiko Hongo) and grandmother of Aviva, special aunt to Pat & Joe Carlin, sister to Margaret (Oscar) Machado, sister-in-law to Margaret Schavone, Rose & Roy Stambaugh and Dominic Consolo and aunt to over thirty nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Visitation was held on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, with a rosary service at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave.. Tempe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Jan. 3 at St. Edward's Catholic Church, 4410 E. Southern Ave., Phoenix. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. The Arizona Republic on 1/3/2004.
