HIGHTOWER, Roger W.


Roger W. Hightower, age 88, died on Monday, Dec. 22, 2003. He was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Vance, Texas, to William Q. and Nona D. Hightower. He is survived by his sons, Roger Hightower of Mesa, Ariz., Robert Hightower of Chandler, Ariz., and David Hightower of Prescott. He is also survived by his sister, Rose Joyce Hightower Wright of El Mirage, Ariz., his niece, N. Doris Davirro of Skull Valley; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great-grandchild. Roger graduated Peoria High School in 1935, then attended Northern Arizona University on a football scholarship where he graduated in 1940 with a BA in Business Administration and Physical Education. He was inducted into the NAU Hall of Fame in Nov. 2001. He coached football and taught physical education in the Mesa School System until the summer of 1964. He became the head football coach and PE teacher at Prescott High School in 1965 until his retirement from coaching in 1972. He continued to teach drivers education until 1978 when he fully retired. A memorial service celebrating Roger's life will be held on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at The First Congregation Church, 216 East Gurley, in Prescott. The Rev. William Guist will officiate at the service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the University Skyjacks Foundation (NAU), P.O. Box 15400, Flagstaff, AZ 86011.
