The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ July 26, 2007 Helen N. Vargas, 75, of Show Low, died Sunday, July 22, 2007, in Lakeside. Mrs. Vargas was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Del Norte, N.D., the daughter of Francis and Julia (Martinez) Lettig. She was raised and attended school in Colorado. She was married to Ross Vargas in July, 1962 in Phoenix. She had lived in Tempe, Mesa and Chandler, and lived in Flagstaff for 10 years. She came to Show Low in 1971. She was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church and the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans auxiliaries. She enjoyed playing bingo. Survivors include her husband, Ross of the home; a daughter Carmen (Wayne) Hill of Show Low; a son, Mike (Denise) Lettig of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Alice Vigil of Denver, Colo.; four brothers Patrick Martinez of Del Norte, N.D. and Eddie, Robert and Rudy Martinez, all of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tiny and Leo Martinez; brothers and twin sisters in infancy. A Rosary was held Wednesday, July 25, at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Show Low. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 26, at the church. Burial will be in Show Low Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Black's Mortuary in Show Low.
