Martin L. Culbreath Sr., 59, of Show Low died Sunday, July 22, 2007, in Lakeside.
Martin was born Feb. 29, 1948, in New York City to William S. and Lizzie (Cooper) Culbreath Sr. He was raised and attended school in New York City, graduating from George Washington High School in 1965. He attended New York City College, majoring in electronics. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1967 and served 11 years, serving in Vietnam. After his discharge, he worked repairing computerized games and later finished his career working for security companies.
He came to the Snowflake and Show Low area seven years ago. He had worked at Hon-Dah Casino for four years. He was a member of the Convent Ave. Baptist Church in NYC, the Pen and Scroll Military Fraternity and the Minisink Boys and Girls Program in NYC for 30 years. He enjoyed reading, talking and his grandchildren and was a sports enthusiast.
Survivors include daughter Tabatha Culbreath of Gary, Ind.; her mother, Vickie James of Show Low; adopted daughter Athena Keller of Gary, Ind.; adopted son David Keller of White Mountain Lakes; brother William Culbreath Jr. of Smyrna, Ga.; granddaughter Ricka and three grandsons Joshua, Joseph and Andrew, all of Gary, Ind.; six step-grandchildren, Tawyna, Richard, Shawn, Amanda, Jacob and Iziya; uncle, Eddie Cooper of Lorton, Va.; several aunts; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward B. Culbreath.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 27, in the chapel of Black's Mortuary in Show Low.
