GREER, Orson Pratt, Jr.


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ July 26, 2007 Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. USAF Orson Pratt Greer Jr., 85, died peacefully June 26, 2007, at RTA Hospice in Lakeside. He was "larger than life" in his accomplishments: jet pilot, professor of air science and government, lover of life, scholar, world traveler, historian, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; posterity of 84. He was the last remaining grandson of A.V. and Polly Greer (in Greer), LDS pioneers who around 1860 homesteaded the 26 Bar Ranch in Amity where Orson's father was born and his parents are buried. He served his country with distinction and honor in WWII, Korea and SAC Command Vietnam. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Family services were held June 26. Owens Mortuary in Show Low handled the arrangements. Donations may be made to RTA Hospice, 1789 W. Commerce, Lakeside, AZ 85929.
