Lloyd Ashley
Dr. Lloyd Ashley Whitesell Jr., 69, of Peoria, Arizona and Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away December 19, 2003, at the Thunderbird Hospice of the Valley in Arizona.
After graduating (1960) from University of Minnesota Medical School and taking a family practice residency in Louisiana, Dr. Whitesell served in Korea as U.S. Army captain. He loved his family practice of 30 years in Buffalo, MN. With his son Tim, He began WML (Whitesell Medical Locums), a physician placement company.
He and Gayle (married 1957) retired to Arizona in 1993 where he could continue his beloved hobbies hunting, fishing, flying his plane and world traveling. His community leadership roles include Board of Education (chair), Hospital Chief of Staff, MinnPAC (chair), Minnesota Medical Association (President), AMA (alternate delegate), and Arizona Silver-Hair Legislator. His memberships include Rotary, American Legion, Shriners, Academy of Family Practice, County Medical Society (President). Deer Valley Pilots' Association, Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society and more. He felt very close to his medical fraternity brothers (Nu Sigma Nu).
Dr. Whitesell is survived by his wife Gayle, sons Chip (Montreal) and Tim (Maple Grove), daughters Heather (St. Louis Park) and Heidi (Maryland), 5 grandchildren (Erika, Elise, Emmy, Marichel and Julian), brother Al (Coon Rapids) and sister Jean (Britt, MN).
The local memorial service will be held Wednesday January 7, 2004 at the Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, 4102 W. Union Hills Drive, Glendale. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church building fund. 621-582-5449.
